Experiment 1: Qualitative Analysis of Common Anions

The document summarizes an experiment to qualitatively test for common anions. Various reagents and techniques were used to test for sulfate, phosphate, carbonate, sulfide, iodide, bromide, chloride, and nitrate ions. Positive results, such as precipitate formation or color changes, indicated which chemical(s) were responsible for detecting each respective anion through included chemical equations. The discussion emphasized proper experimental procedures like thorough shaking and clean test tubes to avoid inaccurate results. In conclusion, the tests were performed properly and yielded accurate positive results for each anion.

Discussion:

1. The solution must be shake thoroughly when the solution is mixed to ensure that
the whole process takes place.
2. Make sure the test tube is wash cleanly before use to avoid any contaminations
which may cause inaccurate results.
3. Place an even number of centrifuge tube to balance up the centrifuge machine
before centrifuging the solutions.

Conclusion:
The tests are carried out properly and results obtained are accurate. The above tests
showed positive results for the ion being tested.
