The block diagram shows the main components of a computer system: the input unit takes in data and converts it to a format the computer can understand, the central processing unit performs calculations and controls the other units, the storage unit holds data and instructions during processing using primary and secondary memory, and the output unit converts the processed data into an understandable format and transmits it outside. A computer is characterized by its ability to perform automatic, high-speed, accurate, and versatile processing while reliably storing large amounts of data in its memory without feelings or intelligence.

Input Unit Accept the data and instructions from the outside world. Convert it to a form that the computer can understand. Supply the converted data to the computer system for further processing. Central Processing Unit Arithmetic Logical Unit Control Unit
The CPU is like brain performs the following
functions: • It performs all calculations. • It takes all decisions. • It controls all units of the computer Storage Unit
The Specific functions of the storage unit
are: The data and instructions required for processing Intermediate results of processing Final results of processing, before releasing the output Storage Unit
Storage unit of computer comprise of
following two types of storage: Primary Storage or Main memory
Secondary Storage or Auxiliary memory
Output Unit Accept the data and instructions from the computer system for further processing. Convert it to a form that the we can understand. Supply the converted data to the outside world. Characteristics of Computer Automatic High Processing Speed
