Load Test On Single Phase Induction Motor

The document describes procedures for conducting load tests on a single phase induction motor and a single phase step down transformer. The motor load test involves gradually increasing the load on the motor and recording measurements like current, voltage, speed. Key measurements for the transformer load test are efficiency, regulation, primary and secondary currents and voltages under no load and full load conditions. Open and short circuit tests are also described to determine the transformer's core losses, power factor and eddy current losses.

Load test on single phase induction motor

Aim
To conduct a load test on capacitor start single phase induction motor
Instruments used

s.no Instruments Quantity

1 ammeter(0-10A, MI) 1

2 Voltmeter(0-250V,MI) 1

3 Wattmeter(250V,10A,UPF) 1

4 Tachometer

Theory
Single phase induction motor is self starting. To make it self start a rotating magnetic field has to be
produced in the stator. This is achieved by converting a single phase supply by us of a auxiliary windingin
series with the capacitor.
Procedure
Connection are made as in the figure. Keeping the load minimum supply is given and start the motor.
Load is gradually increased till the rated current and reading are noted.
Sample calculation
Input - w
Torque - (s1-s2)Rxg where R= radius of breadrum And g=9.8m/s2
Output - 2 nt/60
Efficiency - output/input
%slip - (ns-n)x100/ns
Power factor - w/vi
Result
Load test was conducted and the performance characterstics have been plotted.

The load test on single phase step down transformer

Aim

To determine the efficiency and regulation of single phase phase transformer(3 KVA,400,220V) by
conducting load test.

Instruments used

Sl.no Instruments Specification Quantity

1 ammeter 0-10 a, mi 1
2 ammeter 0-20 a, mi 1
3 Voltmeter 0-500 v, mi 1
4 Voltmeter 0-250 v, mi 1
5 Wattmeter 500 v,10 a, upf 1
6 DPST switch - 1
Theory

When the transformer is loaded with a constant primary voltage the secondary terminal voltage
decreases because of its internal resistance and leakage reactance. Change in secondary voltage from no
load to full load divided by no load voltage in regulation down and divided by full load voltage is
regulation up.

%regulation+ (no load voltage – full load voltage)x 100/no load voltage.

Procedure

Connections are made as in figure. With primary supply on ,secondary is loaded till rated current and
reading are noted

Sample calculation

Primary current I1 =

Primary voltage V1 =

Secondary current I2 =

Secondary voltage =

Output = V2I2

Input = W

Efficiency = outputx100/input

%regulation = (no load voltage- full load voltage)x100/no load voltage

Result

Load test was conducted and the performance characteristics have been plotted

Open circuited and short circuited test on transformer

Aim

To determine the regulation and n of the given transformer

1.upf and full load

2. 0.8 pf(lag) and half full load

3. 0.8 pf(lead) and half full load

4. upf and half load

Theory

From open circuited and short circuited test we can determine value of core losses

Wo=voiocos$

From the observation values of voio is obtained

No load pf cos $= wo/voio

Eddy loss components iw = io cos $

Magnetic components im= io sin$

From the sc test we will get the value of
