Sheet

The document provides requirements and specifications for the term project of designing a steel structure factory. It includes: 1) Drawing the layout, plans, elevations, and sections of the steel truss and frame structure to scale. 2) Calculating and showing the load distribution on an intermediate truss and frame. 3) Designing and drawing the truss members, connections, and column base to scale using bolts or welds. 4) Designing and drawing the frame columns, rafter, connections, purlins, crane girder, end gable column, and column bases to scale.

ZAGAZIG UNIVERSITY THIRD YEAR CIVIL

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING STEEL STRUCTURES

CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPT. TERM PROJECT - 2010

Material of construction
- . is mild steel 37
Any missing data may be reasonably assumed

A steel structure factory having a clear height (4 a) and covering the area
shown in figure (1). The structure is made of steel trusses and frames i.e
Extension area and the car shed (sec A, B).

It is required to:
(1) Draw to a convenient scale a complete layout, plan, elevations and
sections if needed for this building, showing all the necessary structural
elements and bracing systems.
(2) Show and calculate the load distribution on an intermediate truss and
on an intermediate frame of this building.
(3) For truss, it is required:-
a- Design all the truss members.
b- Design all the truss connections using ordinary bolts Grad 4.6 and
draw the truss with its connections to a convenient scale.
c- Design all the truss connections as welded connections, and draw
the truss with its connections to a convenient scale.
d- Design the column base connection at ( C ) as a hinged base and
draw it.
(4) For frames , it is required:
a- Design the columns (C1) and the rafter (C2).
b- Design and draw the connections ( A & B ),using H.S.B. M20
grade 10.9.
c- Design an intermediate cold-formed Purlin on the main frame and
draw its connection to the rafter.
d- For the main frames design a suitable section for the crane girder
having max. wheel loads of crane as shown in Fig. (2), then draw
the connection between the crane girder and the supporting frame.
e- Design an end-gable column for this building and draw its
connection with the frame.
f- Design the column base connection at (D) as a hinged base and
draw it.
