1 - Dopamine

Dopamine hydrochloride is used to correct hemodynamic imbalances present in shock after MI, trauma, endotoxic septicemia, surgery, renal failure, or decompensation. It is administered intravenously at an initial dose of 2-5mcg/kg/min with 15 minute intervals until an adequate response is noted. Contraindications include use in patients with pheochromocytoma or hypothyroidism, or in the presence of uncorrected tachyarrhythmia or ventricular fibrillation. Adverse reactions include tachycardia, angina pain, palpitations, hypotension, vasoconstriction, hypertension, and headache. Nursing considerations include monitoring vital signs and ECG
