3th Reflection For Teaching Language Skills

This week's lesson focused on preparing students for the four language skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking - through warm-up activities. The class discussed the importance of warm-ups and completing tasks in order. They also considered best practices for giving clear instructions by using simple language, engaging body language, checking for understanding and incorporating visual aids. While all components were covered, the author felt they needed more practice with body language techniques.

ELT METHODOLOGY (II) – 302

WEEK 3 – Warming Up – Teaching the four skills: task preperation

This week, we had an activitiy about what we are going to do as in turn on pre, while and post-
reading. I like the activity although we had a bit difficulty in setting the steps in order :) We also
talked about why warm up is important and aims of warming-up activities in the classroom. In
addition to them, we discussed about giving instruction. Of course, I think the most important part of
a lesson is this because if we didn’t define what they are going to do clearly, the class would only be
waste of time. We lined up some variables in instruction giving;

 Clarity and simlicity of language

 Voice quality
 Body language and gesture
 Use of visual aids
 Checking understanding
 Using L1 or L2
 Your own teaching style

All are ok, let’s set aside others, but I need more practice on using body language :)
