Setting Up Mail Server: Ankur Saxena A25 Mca Ist Sem CAP316

A mail server is a computer that stores email for users and allows them to send and receive messages. Most internet service providers provide at least one email account on their mail server as part of basic service. Each account has a unique username and email address consisting of the username and the provider's domain name. Setting up a mail server involves installing Linux, antivirus software, Apache, PHP, and configuring a system-wide address book and webmail. Mail servers provide reliable delivery, are easy to use, and reduce training time and costs while enhancing efficiency and speed compared to storing emails locally. However, they have limitations like attachment size limits and ability to track sent messages, as well as risks from spam and viruses.

A mail server is a computer that sends,
receives and stores e-mail for users.

Almost every Internet Service Provider

(ISP) includes at least one mailbox on
their mail server as part of their basic
service.
Each mailbox on the server has a unique name
which is usually, but not always, the login name
you use to connect to your Internet Service
Provider i.e ISP.

Each mailbox also is associated with a unique e-

mail address which usually consists of your login
name combined with the ISP's domain name in the
form.
For Example:-
Suppose we have an account on GMAIL, like
[email protected] or
[email protected]
We can send or receive mails from various
persons.
Gmail is also a Mail Server computing technique
which provides the free storage other than the
hard disk in the system.
The mails are stored in the mail server account
itself.
STEPS SETTING UP MAIL SERVER
1. Install Linux
2. Install and configure antivirus
3. Setup Apache and PHP4 .
4. Setup a system-wide address book
5. Install and configure web mail
6. Install and configure detection by
keyword to come shortly
Advantages :
Reliable Document Delivery :- The mail server computing
technique is very much reliable to users as we can access to the
all our mails at any place.
Easy Installation :- The process of sending and receiving mails
is so much easy to use even a native person can also do so.
Reduces Training Time and Cost :- As the mailing procedure is
so simple, we don`t need any remunerated professionals to give
training to the starters. As a result, it reduces the time of training
and also decreases the cost.
Enhanced Efficiency and Speed :- The mail server computing is
very mush efficient to use. It also enhances the speed as we can
send number of files at a single time all around the globe.
Disadvantages :-
Attachment Size Limitation :- The size of the
file in the mail server is limited.
Tracking of Mails :- The mails sent to a
person can be tracked. As a result, some
important information can be leaked up.
Spamming of Viruses or Unwanted Threats :-
Some persons can also send the files loaded
with viruses or other unwanted elements.
