All the Supporters must be Corporate Members of the IESL. They should be personally familiar with the work of the candidate. The Supporters are requested to confirm the
accuracy of the statements of the Candidate by initialling in the margin.

my election, I will be governed during my membership of any class in the INSTITUTION OF
ENGINEERS, SRI LANKA, by the by-laws and other rules & regulations of the Institution, as they now
are, or as they may hereafter be altered and that I will advance the objects of the Institution as far as
shall be in my power; provided that whenever I shall signify in writing to the Secretary that I am
desirous of withdrawing from the Institution, I shall, after the payment of arrears which may be due by
me at that period, be free from this obligation.

NOTES
1.2 Supporters are required to determine that the candidate complies with the relevant clauses of either By-Law 7 or
By-Law 9 as appropriate to the class of membership applied for.
1.3 Only Corporate Members of this Institution who currently hold a valid membership are eligible to sign as supporters
for candidates for Corporate Membership.
1.4 Supporters
1.4.1 The supporters must be Corporate Members of the Institution. A minimum of 2 signatories are required.
1.4.2 Candidates applying for transfer to the class of Associated Member are not required to be proposed.
1.4.3 The Supporters are requested to initial particulars of the Candidate’s qualifications and experience, of
which they have personal knowledge.
3. Documentation.
3.1 To avoid delay in processing please ensure that :
3.1.1 This form is filled accurately.
3.1.2 All supporting documents are enclosed/submitted.
3.1.3 The correct payment has been made.
3.2 Originals of certificates of (1) Birth, (2) Educational, and/or professional qualifications must be submitted with
Photostat copies. The originals will be returned after the copies are verified and certified for filing.
3.2 Entrance Fee, Deposit against first annual subscription and Exemption Fees if any, should be made to this Office.

Every Candidate for admission or transfer to the class of Associate Member shall satisfy the Council,
(i) that he/she is more than 21 years of age;
(ii) (a) that he/she has followed a regular course of higher education approved by the Council for
the purpose of this by-law, which, if part time, was undertaken while he /she was concurrently
engaged in apprenticeships or in other practical work in engineering approved by Council.
or (b) that he/she has been a Student of the Institution for more than three years.
and (iii) that he/she has passed such sections of the Institution Examinations as may be prescribed by the
Council or such exempting examinations as the Council may approve from time to time.
By-Law 9 Students shall comprise every person who has been admitted into the Class of Student so long as his name is on the
roll as such.
Every candidate for admission to the Class of Student shall be over 16 years of age, and shall satisfy the Council;
(i) that he/she has passed such qualifying examination or sections of an examination as may from
time to time accepted by the Council.
and (ii) (a) that he/she is under going regular course of further education approved by the Council for
the purpose of this By-Law;
or (b) has in denatured himself as an apprentice under the supervision of a Corporate Member of
the Institution in a manner acceptable to Council.
By-Law 10 A person may remain on the Roll as a Student or join the Institution as a Student after he/she reaches the age of 35
years provided he/she pays the appropriate transfer/entrance fee and annual subscriptions under By-Law 34.
