Cell Theory

Cells of the same type group together to form tissues. Tissues are made of layers of cells and work together to form organs. The heart is an organ made of muscle and nerve tissues. Groups of organs form organ systems, like the circulatory system of which the heart is a part. All the organ systems combine to form complete organisms, whether plants or animals.

The Cell Theory is one of the foundations of modern
biology. Its major tenets are:

 All living things are composed of one or more


cells.

 The chemical reactions of living cells take place


within cells.

 All cells originate from pre-existing cells.

 Cells contain hereditary information which is

 The body of a multicellular organism comprises of a large number of

 These cells are specialized in structure and
function in order to perform different functions.

A group of similar cells arranged together in a
characteristic manner to perform a special function is
called tissue.
Example: Muscular Tissue

Different tissues combine and function together as a
unit called organ.
Example: eye, liver, etc.

ORGAN SYSTEM
When many organs work together for certain major
activity, such a group of organs is termed as organ
system.
Examples: kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder and urethra
constitute excretory system.
