Install and Run The SDM Demo Application

This document provides instructions to install and run the Cisco Software Defined Monitoring (SDM) demo application: 1. Extract the demo files and copy the data file to your PC. 2. Ensure the latest SDM version is installed and allow active content to properly launch the application in your browser. 3. Click the SDM icon and enter 127.0.0.1 to start the demo, accepting any security prompts. Then import sample certificates to demonstrate certificate functionality. However, several features are not fully supported in the demo application despite appearing in the interface.

Install and Run the SDM Demo Application

1. Extract the zip file SDM_demo_tool.zip.

2. Copy the 'dataFile.zip' to C:\

3. Have latest SDM2.3.2 build installed in your PC. If you do not have the SDM2.3.2 installed, you
could get the build from the location http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/sdm

Disable any active pop-up blockers in the web browser that you will use to run SDM.

4. When SDM is installed on a PC , Internet Explorer may display HTML source


code when you attempt to launch SDM. To fix this problem, go to Tools >
Internet Options > Advanced. Then scroll to the Security section, check
Allow active content to run in files on my computer, and click Apply.
Then relaunch SDM.

5. Click on the Cisco SDM icon on your desktop to launch the SDM demo version. Enter the
loopback address 127.0.0.1 and click on the launch button to start the SDM demo application.
Accept any security certificate notification messages that pop up.

6. Use the ca.cer and router.cer certificates to demonstrate importing Certificate Authority (CA) and
Router certificates. You could get these certificates from SDM_demo_tool.zip.

Caveats

Following features are currently not fully supported on the demo application even though they show up on
the SDM user interface -

d. Management access
e. Troubleshooting
f. CLI Views
g. IPS – Edit IPS signatures, SDEE messages
h. VPN – PKI enrollment wizard
i. WebVPN – Installing svc and csd application
j. Config Editor
k. Secure Device Provisioning (SDP)
l. Router Provisioning
