GDT Training

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing is a symbolic language used on engineering drawings to communicate geometry requirements for components and assemblies. There are different GD&T standards used around the world, with ASME Y14.5 being the most widely used. Ray Xing is a certified GD&T trainer who has 15 years of experience in quality and metrology fields. He provides GD&T training covering the ASME Y14.5 standard.

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing is a symbolic l

anguage commonly used on mechanical engineering

drawings to efficiently and accurately communicate g
eometry requirements for associated features on com
ponents and assemblies.
There are different standards that are used in different regions
over the world but ASME Y14.5 has been the most widely used
inside and outside North America. The latest version from ASME
is Y14.5-2009 that are just released in March 2009, therefore
you'll still see Y14.5M-1994 in the title block on the drawing most
of the time. But the key concept of two versions has the same
base.
It doesn’t matter if you’re customers or suppliers, if your
technical team don’t understand GD&T requirements on
the drawing very well then you have high risk of making
rejectable parts, which will be very costly. This is also call
ed “Dollar Impact ” in quality management system.
Ray Xing is an ASME certified GDTP Senior (GDTP-
S0605), one of the only 17 cert. holders in Cana
da and he’s also an ASME member 。 In the past 1
5 years he has worked through different position
s in quality field, from Quality Technician to Q
uality Engineer, from CMM programmer to Metrolog
y Manager and Consultant in various type of manu
facturing environment. He has a good understandi
ng on different manufacturing process including
Tool&Die making, Stamping, Die casting, Precisio
n machining and Body-in-white, where he has appl
ied GD&T knowledge.

Ray is also a CMM application specialist with va

st hands-on experience on CMM programming, train
ing and contract inspection. He has programmed w
ith more than 10 different CMM software, which p
retty much covers all the major brand of CMM in
today’s market. So when he trains people on GDT
he’ll not only teach standards but also focus o
n how you can apply these rules in the real worl
d, especially with the modern CMM technology.
