Bottom Up Model

A bottom-up reading model emphasizes part-to-whole processing where readers begin by processing individual letters and sounds, and then combine them to recognize words and derive meaning. It gives little emphasis to higher-order thinking or the reader's background knowledge. According to proponents like Flesch, Gough, and LaBerge and Samuels, bottom-up reading involves sequentially analyzing letters, sounds, words, and sentences with meaning emerging from decoding the text itself rather than outside influences.
