Proposal # 03: Digital Clock
Proposal # 03: Digital Clock
DIGITAL CLOCK:
Digital display clocks an attraction for office, industrial and
household purposes. Since the time is indicated by direct readout, much
of the confusion regarding the position of hands. Is the conventional
clock is eliminated. Further, the self-illuminated bright characters can be
seen clearly in the presence of light or even in the dark.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES:
The heart of clock circuit is a stable-frequency 1 cycle/sec pulse
generator. The output pulses from this are counted by a chain of
counters, whose outputs are displayed as the time. The counters are reset
at the appropriate count by suitable logic, so that the count displayed is
in the form of minutes and hours.
The counters used here are at the TTL family 7490
‘divide –by ten’ counter and the 7492 divide by ten counter .These
counter have two stages; the first stage wit input a and output with A is
a plain divide by two counters. The second stage has the input bc (or bd)
and outputs B,C,D which constitute a divide by five and divide by six
counters for 7490 and 7492 respectively. These stages can be accessed
separately, while cascading is also possible to obtain the full counting
range. The counters change their output on the falling edge of the clock.
Each counter has two zero-reset terminals. If these are
simultaneously brought to high state, then the counters will read zero at
their outputs. All the facilities, available in the counters are utilized in
the circuit discussed here.
