Exercises that are listed in this lab worksheet.
LAB 10
CONFIGURING
APPLICATIONS
Exercise 10.1 Installing Remote Server Administration Tools
Overview Before you can configure AD DS Group Policy settings from
your Windows 7 workstation, you must install and enable the
Remote Server Administration Tools, which includes the Group
Policy Management console.
Complete this on the VM you created NYC-CLa and WinServer2008_RWDC01
Completion time 10 minutes
Will the Group Policy settings you configure in your new GPO have an
Questio immediate effect on your network? Why?
n 1 The settings will not have any immediate effect because the GPO is not
yet linked to an Active Directory Domain Services object.
Exercise 10.2 Configuring IE8
Overview The director of IT at Contoso, Ltd. wants to prevent the
company’s Windows 7 users from modifying the default
Internet Explorer configuration by installing additional
software, such as add-ons and accelerators. She also wants to
ensure that the company intranet pages, designed several
years ago for a previous IE version, display properly in IE8.
Finally, the director wants to ensure that all Internet browsing
activity on the network is logged for later examination. Your
job is to configure the appropriate Group Policy settings to
implement these requirements in your GPO.
Complete this on the VM you created NYC-CLa and WinServer2008_RWDC01
Completion time 10 minutes

Users can run any programs in the windows and program files folders
Admins can use all files
Based on the default rules that appear in the Windows Installer Rules
folder, what Windows Installer files can a typical user run on a Windows 7
Questio workstation? What Windows Installer files can members of the
n7 Administrators group run?

To deploy a GPO like the one you have created in this lab, you must link it
to a Active Directory Domain Services domain, site, or organizational unit
object. However, for the purposes of this lab, it is necessary for the
settings in your GPO to be applied to your workstation only, and not any of
the other computers on the network. To complete this challenge, you must
configure your GPO so that its settings apply only to the NYC-CLa computer
and then link it to the contoso.com domain object in the AD DS tree. Write
out the procedure you used to complete the challenge, and then take a
screen shot showing the configuration that limits the scope of the GPO
by pressing Alt+Prt Scr, and paste it below by pressing Ctrl+V.
Enter admin tools click on Group Policy Manager. Right click on NYC-CLa Policies and under

while the programs are loading, and increasing the vertical scale makes it
easier to see the maximum counter values.
Does this selection of counters make for an effective graph? Why or why
Questio
not?
n 10
no the graphs are not visible from this view

12.4 Managing Group Memberships
Overview When you create local user accounts with the User Accounts
control panel, you have two account type options (Standard
User and Administrator) to choose from that are actually a
means of creating memberships in the Users and
Administrators groups, respectively. In the Local Users and
Groups snap-in, you must manually configure the group
memberships for the new users.
Questio How many built-in local groups are there on the computer?
n 3 14
In Exercises 12.2, 12.3, and 12.4, you created several local user accounts
and two local groups, and then added the users as members of the
appropriate groups. To complete this challenge, you must complete the
same tasks by creating domain users and groups using the Net.exe
command line utility. Write a list of Net.exe commands that will create a
user account for the Director Jay Adams (JAdams), the users from Table 12-
4, and the groups from Exercise 12.4, and then add the users to the correct
groups, according to the following assignments:
· Accounting—Director, shift supervisors, administrative assistants
· Bookkeeping—Director, bookkeepers, administrative assistants
· Domain Admins—Director, shift supervisors
· Enterprise Admins—Director
· Domain Users—Director, shift supervisors, bookkeepers,
administrative assistants
