JIDO Lasagna

This lasagna recipe takes 3 hours to prepare but is worth the effort for special occasions. It includes layers of noodles, meat sauce, and a ricotta cheese mixture topped with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Hearty Lasagna

Though this recipe may take a little extra time, it is worth


the wait. Enjoy this lasagna for any special occasion, or if
you’re just in the mood for Italian.

Ingredients:
1 pound of Italian sausage
1 pound of ground beef
1/2 cup of chopped onions
2 cloves of garlic chopped
1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
2 (8 ounce) cans of tomato sauce
2 (6 ounce) cans of tomato paste
1/2 Cup of Water
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon fennel seed
2 teaspoons fresh Basil leaves chopped
4 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
23 ounces of ricotta cheese
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 egg
1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
12 lasagna noodles

Total Cook and Prep Time: 3 hours


Serves 12
Combine:
1 pound of beef
1 pound of Italian sausage
1/2 cup chopped onions
2 cloves of garlic chopped

Mix:
well together and brown for 7 to 9 minutes

Add:
1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
2 (8 ounce) cans of tomato sauce
2 (6 ounce) cans of tomato paste
1/2 cup of water

Mix gently into meat mixture

Add:
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon fennel seed
2 teaspoons fresh Basil leaves chopped
3 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

Gently stir into the sauce

Cook sauce for:


1 hour 30 minutes
Stir occasionally

To avoid a mess, we suggest covering the sauce with a


lid

Soak lasagna noodles:


in hot tap water for 15 minutes

Combine:
23 ounces of ricotta cheese
½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 egg
1 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley chopped

Mix Ingredients:
until the mixture appears smooth and creamy

Spread:
2 ½ cups of meat sauce in a 9x13 pan

Place:
the noodles on top of the meat sauce

Spread:
half of the ricotta cheese mixture and half of
mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over noodles

Spread:
2 ½ cups of meat sauce over the parmesan cheese

Lay the next layer of noodles

Layer:
the remaining ricotta cheese mixture, Parmesan and
mozzarella cheese, saving some cheese for the top of
lasagna

Cover:
with foil and bake for 25 minutes for 350° oven

Remove foil and continue baking for another 25


minutes

Remove lasagna from oven:
Allow the lasagna to cool for five minutes

Slice and serve (serves 12 people)
