1) The document introduces 3 new forms for controlling chemical inventory - for hazardous substances/flammables, poisons/explosive precursors, and biological materials.
2) Details are provided on how to fill out the form for hazardous substances/flammables, including chemical name, hazard class, physical form, type and size of container, storage quantities.
3) Brief descriptions and examples are given for the forms for biological materials and poisons/explosive precursors.

NEW CHEMICAL CONTROL FORMS
PRESENTATION
Done by: DCHE1016 FYP Team
Introduction SP has implemented 3 new forms for controlled chemical inventory recording and control. The 3 new classifications are: 1)Hazardous Substances & Petroleum/Flammable 2)Poisons/ Explosive Precursor 3)Biological Materials This presentation aims to standardize and clarify any doubts on how to fill in the 3 new forms. Hazardous Substances & Petroleum/Flammable Materials Chemical Name –IUPAC name UN/IMO hazard class –Classification of chemicals into class. Obtainable from SDS. Physical form –State of chemical (E.g. Solid) Type of container –Container that is being used to store the chemical. Pictures below:
Drums –Mainly characterized
by their large capacity (≥20L) Hazardous Substances & Petroleum/Flammable Materials
Bottles –Medium capacity (≤20L)
Glass Bottle Plastic Bottle
Cylinders –Cylindrical shape
containers (mainly for gas) Hazardous Substances & Petroleum/Flammable Materials
Containers –Other odd shaped
storage medium
Plastic container with
plastic bag –Mainly for storage of powder chemicals Hazardous Substances & Petroleum/Flammable Materials Unit capacity of container –Maximum amount of chemicals the container is capable of holding Maximum quantity store on site –Maximum allowable volume or weight of chemical that the lab can have Actual quantity –Volume or weight of chemical that the lab currently has Checked by chemical controller -To be signed by chemical controller after check Example Biological Material Biological materials name – Naming of material (E.g. E.Coli) Supplier Name –Name of company that provides us with the material ATCC No. –Specifying of cultures’ standards and specifications (Definitions to be printed and filed) BATA Schedule –Another form of classification (Definitions to be printed and filed together with ATCC No.) Example Poison/Explosive Precursor Name and % Concentration –Naming and purity in % (E.g. 40% w/v) Serial/ID No. –Numbering Name of company/address – Name or address of company that supplies the substance Dispensing Section –Recording of usage or distribution of specific substances Example The End
