Different Castes in Pakistan
Sheikh
• Mostly Shieks in Pakistan are Punjabi. The
Punjabi Shaikh are a multi-ethnic community
who are partly descended from Arabs, Persians,
Afghans and Turks.
• Their origin is from middle east and Arabian
countries.
• They are found in Punjab as Punjabi speaking
Shaikhs and also found in Sindh as Sindhi
speaking Shaikhs.
Aryan
• The Aryan race is a concept historically
influential in European culture and
American culture in the period of the late
19th century and early 20th century.
• Then mixed with other castes and became
part of indian society. There descendents
are in India and Pakistan. Those who
converted to islam are mostly found in
Punjab.
Chaudhry
• Chaudhry has roots in 15th century.
• The title became significant during the
Mughal era.
• Although the title has lost its original
exclusivity, in both Indian and Pakistani
Punjab regions a Chaudhry is still
considered a leader of a tribe in some
villages and small towns. They are usually
landowners in rural Punjab and Sindh.
Malik
• Malik putatively of Arab origin, living
predominantly in northern, central, and western
parts of Punjab, Pakistan.
• The Awans subscribe to the belief that they are
the descendants of the fourth Caliph and call
themselves Alvi.
• Those who consider themselves awan but not
Alvi, they claim that they are descendents of
Qutb Shah.
• There desendants are found in Rawalpindi,
Jhelum, Sialkot and Attock.
Jatt
• The Jat people are a historical Indo-Aryan tribal
group native to the Punjab region.
• The Jats rose to prominence following the 1669
Jat uprising against Mughal rule, during british
raj they were given the title of “martial race”.
• A large number of Jat muslims are present in
punjab,in addition to punjab they are in
kashmir,in sindh, kacchi a region of balochistan
and dera ismael khan.
Gujjar
• The Gujjar are an ethnic in Pakistan. While the
origin of the Gujjars is uncertain, the Gujjar clan
appeared in modern Pakistan and northern India
about the time of the Huna invasions of the
region.
• They were primarily classed as Kshatriya and
Brahmin, and many of them later converted to
Islam during the Muslim rule in South Asia.
• Pakistan the Muslim Gujjars are considered as
tribe.
Pathans
• The history of the pathan people is
ancient, and much of it is not fully
researched.
• In pakistan, they are living all over the
country. But have tribes in NWFP and
Baluchistan. These tribes use different
surnames such as orakzai, yousafzai,
khan, sadozai, sardars and durrani.

Mughal Empire
• The Mughal Empire was an Indian-
Islamic imperial power that ruled a large
portion of Indian subcontinent which
began in 1526, invaded and ruled most of
Hindustan (South Asia) by the late 17th
and early 18th centuries by forming
alliance with Indian Maharaja, and ended
in the mid-19th century.
