DS Hydralazine

Hydralazine is used to treat high blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. It can increase heart rate and cause fluid retention, so is often taken with other medications. Common side effects include headache, nausea, decreased appetite, and diarrhea. People with coronary artery disease, rheumatic heart disease affecting the mitral valve, kidney disease, lupus, angina, or a history of stroke may need a dose adjustment or special testing before taking hydralazine. It is category C in pregnancy and can pass into breast milk, so nursing mothers should discuss with their doctor before using.
