Sports Development Continuum: Rhea Henwood

The Sports Development Continuum model represents an individual's progression through different stages of involvement in sport, from beginners to elite performers. It is depicted as an inverted pyramid with the foundation stage at the base involving children first being introduced to basic skills, widening out to participation and performance stages focused on regular practice and competition, and narrowing to the excellence stage at the top comprising national and international athletes. The model highlights how developing a broad base can result in more people reaching higher levels of achievement in sport.
