Home and Environment

The family‘s house, which is beside the pineapple fields, is made up of mixed materials of
wood and concrete. The house has a large space and with high roofing. The house is consisting
of one living room, three bedrooms, two comfort rooms, two dining areas, and two kitchen
areas. Mostly, the areas of the house have no ceiling except for the three bedrooms. Overall,
there is nine windows and maximum of two windows each bedroom. The floor of the dining
and the three bedrooms is made up of tiles while the rest of the rooms are covered with
linoleum or plainly concrete. The walls are smooth and covered with wall paint. Based on the
total window opening and the total area of the house, it resulted to 20% satisfaction which
indicates that the house well ventilated. Usually, the father, mother and his son sleep together
in one bedroom and the grandfather, the grandmother and one of their granddaughter sleeps
together. The other bedroom serves as a guest room. There are two separate dining and
kitchen areas. One is in the house and the other one is located outside the house which is
usually used by the family. The kitchen located outside the house has no sink and faucet. They
usually use LPG to cook their food but sometimes they also use wood. The kitchen utensils are
very open because it has no cover and may be prone to different vectors. The family has no
refrigerator so they usually store their food in the cabinet / drum or at the table and sometimes
they left the food uncovered. The family’s source of water is from NAWASA. Even though it is
potable, the family sometimes uses filtration to sanitize their water during rainy days. The
family has two comfort rooms which is exclusive only for the family. The type of their excreta
disposal is level 2 or it has a septic tank. They usually store their water in a drum but has no
cover. The family has no trash can inside and outside the house. The family usually dumps their
garbage in an open pit situated at the back of their house near the kitchen area. Mrs. B.D.B
verbalized “Sinusunog naman naming yung mga plastic.” The client also verbalized “ Kadalasan,
mga lamok, langaw at daga ang mga peste ditto sa bahay, siguro dahil na rin sa mga basura.”
The drainage system is open and free flowing. The family owns two dogs which is kept in a dog
house outside the house.

The distance of the houses has a good spacing and it is not crowded. The other two
neighboring houses are owned by the relatives of the family so they know each other and there
are less fights and misunderstanding. The relationship of the family between the other
neighbors are also good.
