A Building Management System (BMS) is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that monitors and operates systems like ventilation, lighting, power, fire safety, and security. A BMS consists of software and hardware, with the software often configured hierarchically and able to use proprietary or open protocols and standards to integrate systems. A BMS links independent building technology systems to unify monitoring and control, optimize processes, centralize and distribute information for improved visibility and alarm response.

A Building Management System (BMS) is a computer-based control system

installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and
electrical equipment such ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and
security systems. A BMS consists of software and hardware; the software program,
usually configured in a hierarchical manner, can be proprietary using such protocols
as C-bus, Profibus, etc. Recently however new vendors are producing BMSs that
integrate using Internet protocols and open standards like DeviceNet, SOAP, XML,
BACnet, Lon and Modbus
Basic Fucntios of the BMS

To link various building technology systems that are independent of one another with
one another

• To unify the monitoring and control of various systems

• To optimize work processes

• To centralize information and distribute it optimally

• To improve information flow

• To provide a quick overview

• To enable quick action in case of an alarm

• To guide and unburden operators
