PERFECT TENSES

Three perfect tenses:


1. Present perfect
2. Past perfect
3. Future perfect
Perfect Tenses

• The three perfect tenses in English are the


three verb tenses which show action already
completed.
Present Perfect
• The present perfect is formed by using the verb
“to have” and a past participate.

• Used:
i. To indicate an action that has taken place in the
past but the specific time of completion is
unknown or not given.
ii. To express an action that started in the past and
has continued into the present.
Present Perfect
• Example:
a. She has transferred to another school.
b. Asyraf has been sick since yesterday.
Past Perfect
• The past perfect is formed by using the verb
“to have” and a past participate.
HAVE had + past participate

• Used:
I. To indicate a past action that was completed
before another action took place.
Past Perfect
• Example:
a. My wife had refused to listen to me although
I explained the situation to her.

b. The house had burnt down by the time the


fireman arrived.
Future Perfect
• Formed with “will + have + past participle”.

• Used:
I. To indicate an action that will be completed at
some point in the future.

• Example:
a. I will have seen it.
b. By the end of this year, Hani will have
completed her studies.
