25 Word Premise: Sexually confused Muslim Pakistani girl starts falling in love with her female best friend, but will her feelings part her from her conservative family?
Target Audience:
Multi-cultural, London based audience
Aged 16 and over due to the controversial storyline Appealable to both males and females but particularly females as the main character is a teenage girl and the storyline is based around feminism and homosexuality.
Outlining the Storyline:
Story based around a young Muslim girl
She struggles with the confusion of her sexuality as she gains feelings for her best friend and begins to wander into a surreal world of her imagination. She finds it difficult to keep her feelings away from her best friend. Explorations of the background of her crush so the audience can make more of an emotional connection. The Muslim girl’s family starts to worry about her and her behaviour as it doesn’t sit well in a Pakistani, Islamic household. The family starts to console religious sources as a way to ‘fix her’ and put her on the ‘right path’. The religious sources are seen as the antagonists as they will be portrayed in a negative light and against our main character. Her family threatens to send her to Pakistan as a way to stop her from straying from her religion. The Muslim girl seeks protection and safety in her best friend and they run away to North London.
