Chilean Earthquake

The 2010 Chilean earthquake occurred on February 27th in south-central Chile. It registered a magnitude of 8.8 and lasted around 90 seconds. The earthquake was caused by subduction of the Nazca plate under the South American plate. While some bridges and buildings collapsed and hundreds were injured, damage was less severe than in Haiti's 2010 earthquake due to Chile's building codes that emphasize strong columns and weak beams to dissipate energy. The codes are being revised further to improve building resilience.

LOCATED IN BRIGDES , BUILDINGS COLLAPSED . SOME CAUGHT FIRE . THE INJURED PEOPLE WERE
SOUTH AMERICA IN HUNDRED MULTIPLE NUMBER ( APPROX . 800 ). THE WORST HIT AREAS WERE OF
SANTIAGO . IT EFFECTED THE EARTH AXIS AND LOST 1 . 26 Msec . OFF THE DAY .

•DURATION : 90 SECS .
•DATE : 27 FEB 2010
•DEPTH : THE DEPTH AT BUILDINGSTRUCTURES : THE BUILDINGS WERE DESIGNED WITH
EPICENTRE WAS PROPER CODES . ONE SYSTEM THAT HELPS CHILE STAY UP IS “ STRONG
21 MILES BELOW THE COLUMNS WEAK BEAMS“. IF THERE IS AN EARTHQUAKE , THE IDEA IS
EARTH SURFACE . THAT THE CONCRETE ON THE BEAMS SHOULD BREAK NEAR THE END ,
•IT WAS STRONGER THAN WHICH DISSIPATES A LOT OF THE ENERGY OF THE EARTHQUAKE , BUT
THAT OF HAITI AND 500 THAT THE STEEL REINFORCEMENT SHOULD SURVIVE AND THE COLUMNS
TIMES POWERFUL . SHOULD STAY STANDING , WHICH MEANS THE BUILDING WILL STAY
UPRIGHT .

CAUSES : WERE DAMAGED SO THE CODE IS
THE EARTHQUAKE REVISED WITH CONCEPT OF
WAS CAUSED DUE TO INCLUDING METAL BRACING WITH
SUBDUCTION OF THICKENED WALL , AND
NAZCA PLATE UNDER SHATTERPROOF GLASS WINDOWS IN
SOUTH AMERICAN BUILDINGS .
