As I Watched

The speaker watched sadly as someone they cared about left in the dead of night, taking flight to find freedom and grow into who they were meant to be. Though their heart was breaking from the person leaving what was holding them back, the speaker stopped questioning it once seeing the tears in their eyes, understanding this was something the other felt they had to do for themselves. The speaker wishes them well and says there is no anger, only support for the person to freely spread their wings and find mirth in who they are meant to be.

My heart was breaking as I watched the scene before me
Unknowingly restrained from movement knowing not what to do
I watched as you made your mind up with your plan to take flight
Leaving alone in the dead of the night
I watched as you took your steps one at a time and watched as you faltered
From what you were leaving behind
Tears in your eyes from heartbreak Unknown to those around
Heart beating fast as your courage grew
You in your heart knew what you had to do
Watching you leave I wondered the cause but seeing your tears
I stopped at a pause
Leave behind your past from here on out
Let your wings spread free an angel that was grounded
From birth fly to your freedom and grow in mirth
We love the you that was,
But we love what you are meant to be the same
Fear not our anger for there's come none to pass
As I watched you leave through the windows glass
