Grade 9 science- Portfolio Assignment(5% of final mark) Grace Lee

The unit I scored the highest out of all my other tests was in Chemistry. I chose this item as something I
am proud of because I have gotten an acceptable mark and also cause I am satisfied with the result. There
were some silly mistakes that I made but overall I have answered the questions correctly, which in the end
will help bring my final grade get higher. The reason for this mark being so high was because I spent time
studying for this test, which I rarely do in other subjects but to see a 95% on the result makes me feel
delighted. Therefore in the future I should study in order to feel glad about my results on tests and exams.

The last unit we did in Grade 9 applied science was Astronomy. Our classmates chose this unit. Since at
my elementary school we did not focus in Astronomy that much I voted for this unit too. In the beginning
I did not enjoy Astronomy because it seemed not that interesting but further into the unit I started to get
amused by how much things occur in space. This test I did not study for cause I felt like I knew
everything and was every confidant but I guess I was wrong because when I looked at the test I felt like I
had no confidence at all which in the end showed. On the astronomy test I got 68%, which brought my
average mark down by three percent. From this test on I will study for everything for me to have a sense
of confidence of knowing that I am going to do well.

The item that I would like to show Mr. Gold that will prove that I am ready to move on to grade 10
science is a study sheet that I made for the electricity test. In order for me to get well on tests my notes
have to be neat which I think I did good on for this study guide sheet. There were some questions that I
did to prepare me for test questions such as calculating voltage when a diagram is drawn and numbers are
giving.

Something that I learned from being a successful in high school science is that a lot of science will be
interoperated to what I would do in the future. Even though I was failing science when I in grade 8 taking
this applied course help me step by step officially understood what happens around the world and our
everyday life. For me this was a challenge cause I was nervous to take science first semester because I
thought I didn’t know as much as others but the thing that helped me the most going through this course
was my notes listening in class and getting help from people around me. Therefore in Grade ten I will like
to go into academic science to experience a challenge from what I enjoy right now. Also cause I would
like to get into university which I cant do if I keep on taking applied science.

One thing that I still need to improve on that will help me improve my marks in grade 10 science will be
not to procrastinate. Procrastination really drags me down when it comes to a test or staying focused
studying cause there are a lot distractions. Even though I feel like I should study for science tests there is
a side of me that says I know most of the things so I should just relax and just do last minute studying the
next morning. In order for me to stop procrastinating is to turn off my laptop, get off facebook, close the
door while studying, not to listen to music and turn my cellphone on silent. Therefore in the future I will
try not to procrastinate and study hard to get the outcome I will like to see.
