Macro Economy April

India added 181 million people over the last decade, nearly matching the entire population of Brazil. This growth means India now accounts for 17.5% of the world's population with over 1.2 billion people. However, the population growth rate of 17.4% is the lowest in 50 years, and fertility rates have declined as the proportion of children aged 0-6 fell from 15.9% to 13.1% of the total population. Literacy rates also increased nationwide from 65% to 74%, with female literacy growing faster than male. While sex ratios improved in many areas, some states like Haryana and Bihar still saw declines, indicating the problem of female foeticide continues.
