Business Maths: Prepared By: Jeel Sheth Mihir Kanani

The document provides an introduction to Vedic maths techniques for arithmetic operations like subtraction, multiplication, division, squares and cubes. Some key techniques discussed include using vertical and crosswise multiplication for 2-digit numbers, placing the sum of 2 digits between the digits when multiplying by 11, dividing 2-digit numbers by 9 based on the digits' sum, and a formula for squaring numbers ending in 5 based on the previous square. Examples are provided to demonstrate several Vedic maths tricks for mental calculations.

TOPIC
“VEDIC MATHS”
What would you learn today
• Introduction
• Subtraction
• Division
• Multiplication with a common base.
• Squares
• Cubes
• Two digit multiplication
• Three digit multiplication
WHAT IS VEDIC MATHS?

In ancient times there were no calculators so our

rishi munis found a way out to do elaborative
sums by easy techniques and tricks .
SUBTRACTION
• Use the rule ALL FROM 9 AND LAST FROM 10
• E.g. 1000 – 357
1000 - 3 5 7
from 9 from 9 from 10

6 4 3
SOME MORE SUMS
• 1000 - 777 =
777
9 9 10

223
1000 - 283 = 717
1000 - 505 = 495
10000 - 2345 = 7655
10000 - 9876 = 124
700
1000 – 300 =
MULTIPLICATION

• How to use VERTICALLY AND CROSSWISE , you

can give the answer immediately. let’s see
• E.g. 88 * 98 ( close to 100) = 8624
88 is 12 below 100 & 98 is 2 below 100
88 - 12
98 – 2
86 24
Subtracting crosswise 88-2 or 98 – 12 = 86
vertically 12*2 = 24
SOME MORE SUMS
• 87 * 98 = 8526
• 88 * 97 = 8536
• 77 * 98 = 7546
• 93 * 96 = 8928
• 94 * 92 = 8648
MULTIPLYING NOS. JUST OVER 100
• 103*104=10712

103 + 4=107/ 3*4=12

104+ 3=107

• 107*106= 11342
107+6=113
7*6=42
SOME MORE SUMS
• 102 * 107 = 10914
• 106 * 103 = 10918
• 104 * 104 = 10816
• 109 * 108 = 11772
• 101 * 123 = 12423
Multiply nos. of which 1st digit are
same and 2nd digit add up to 10
• E.g. 32*38 = 1216
both nos. here start with 3 & last figures (2&8)
add up to 10
• So we multiply
2*8=16

32 * 38=12 16

3*4=12
SOME MORE SUMS
• 43 * 47 = 2021
• 24 * 26 = 624
4216
• 62 * 68 = 221
• 17 * 13 =
3009
• 59 * 51 =
AN ELEGANT WAY OF MULTIPLING NUMBERS
USING SIMPLE PATTERN
• E.g. 21*23=483
2 1

2 3
4 8 3
There are 3 steps:-
Multiply vertically on the left: 2*2=4
Multiply crosswise & add: 2*3+2*1=8
Multiply vertically on the right: 3*1=3
SOME MORE SUMS
• 14 * 21 = 294
• 22 * 31 = 682
• 21 * 31 = 651
• 21 * 22 = 462
• 32 * 21 = 672
MULTIPLY A NUMBER BY 11
• To multiply any 2 number figure by 11 we just
put the total of the two figures between two
figures.

• E.g. 2 6 * 1 1 = 2 8 6

• E.g. 2 +3+ 4 * 1 1 = 2 5 7 4
SOME MORE SUMS
• 72 * 11 = 792
• 43 * 11 = 473
• 15 * 11 = 165
• 81 * 11 = 891
• 44 * 11 = 484
DIVIDING 2 DIGIT FIGURES BY 9
• 23/9 = 2 remainder 5
The 1st figure of 23 is 2, and this is the answer.
The remainder is just 2+3=5
• 43/9 = 4 remainder 7
The 1st figure of 43 is 4, and this is the answer.
The remainder is just 4+3=7
DIVIDING 3 DIGIT FIGURES BY 9
• 134/9 = 14 remainder 8
1 is just the 1st figure of 134.
4 is the total of the 1st two figures 1+3=4.
8 is just the total of all three digits 1+3+4=8.
SOME MORE SUMS
• 61 / 9 = 6 remainder 7
• 33 / 9 = 3 remainder 6
• 44 / 9 = 4 remainder 8
• 232 / 9 = 25 remainder 7
• 555 / 9 = 61 remainder 6
SQUARE OF NOS. THAT END IN 5
• Use the formula BY ONE MORE THAN THE ONE
BEFORE
• E.G. 75*75
the answer is in 2 parts i.e,
5*5=25
7*8=56
square of 7 5 = 5 6 2 5

7*8 5*5
SOME MORE SUMS
• 45 * 45 = 2025
• 55 * 55 = 3025
• 65 * 65 = 4225
• 95 * 95 = 9025
• 35 * 35 = 1225
