The purpose of networking computers is to share resources (data and / or printers) Sharing Resources done by connecting all computers

together in Workgroup or Domain Model The main difference between workgroup and domain is how the computers and other resources on the networks are managed.

In a Work Group, each computer that is member of a workgroup is a separate entity Work group is decentralized security model A work group has not having any dedicated server to track users Users authentication process done in the same machine where you are logging All computers are peers; no computer has control over another computer. Each computer has a set of user accounts. To log on to any computer in the workgroup, you must have an account on that computer. Passwords can become out of sync, if changed on one computer not updated to others If using file sharing, you may reach the 10 max simultaneous connection limits In a Domain Servers are used to control the security and permissions for all computers on the domain. If you have a user account on the domain, you can log on to any computer on the domain without needing an account on that computer. The advantage is that you have a dedicated server to log / track all users and shares Group policies, roaming profiles; home folders; delegation of authority ; software deployment Domain provides a Security boundary for access and control to resources
