Circle Theorem

The document contains 5 problems involving circle theorems. Problem 1 asks to calculate the curved surface area of a tunnel segment modeled as a circular arc. Problem 2 involves finding angles related to two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle. Problem 3 calculates angles related to tangents and a chord of a circle where one angle is given as 70 degrees. Problem 4 uses parallel and tangent properties to find two angles. Problem 5 calculates three angles using properties of an inscribed angle, tangent, and central angle.

1 The diagram shows a cross section of a tunnel. It shows a segment of a circle of centre O and radius 5 m. AB is a chord of the circle. AB = 8 m. The length of the tunnel is 40 m. Calculate the curved surface area of the tunnel. Give your answer correct to 3 significant figures. 2 Two tangents are drawn from a point T to a circle centre O. They meet the circle at points A and B. Angle AOB is equal to 128. In this you MUST give reasons for your answers. Work out the size of the angles i APB ii BAO iii ABT

The diagram shows a circle centre O. PQ and QR are tangents to the circle at P and Q respectively. S is a point on the circle. Angle PSR = 70. PS = SR. (a) i Calculate the size of angle PQR. ii State the reason for your answer. (b) i ii Calculate the size of angle SPO. Explain why PQRS cannot be a cyclic quadrilateral.

A, B, C and T are points on the circumference of a circle. Angle BAC = 25. The line PTS is the tangent at T to the circle. AT = AP. AB is parallel to TC. (a) Calculate the size of angle APT. (b) Calculate the size of angle BTS. Give reasons for your answer.

A, B, C and D are points on the circumference of a circle. 1

TA and TC are tangents to the circle.
