Lesson I - Production in the Philippines 1. Discuss the concept of production as seen by the layman, the economist, and the manager?

2. What role does manufacturing play in an economic system? 3. What are the characteristics of a production system? 4. Describe by way of examples: (a) continuous manufacturing, (b) intermittent manufacturing, (c) batch manufacturing, and (d) project manufacturing 5. Differentiate analytical manufacturing from synthetic manufacturing. Give Example

Lesson 2 Production Management and Organization 1. What is a corporation?

2. What makes the corporation a very important business ownership structure? 3. Explain the various connotations implied by the term production management? 4. State the objectives of production management. Relate the responsibilities of a production manager to these objectives? 5. Explain the existence of the informal organization in a company?

Problems & Projects : 1. List and explain the characteristics features of five important industries and visualize the different problems which a production manager might encounter.

2. Make a model of the production system to show the interaction of its different elements in the following firms: (a) An industrial enterprise (b) A hospital (c) A marketing firm (d) A school 3. Make a comparative study of the organization for production of:

(a) Two firms in different industries (b) Two firms in the same industry with different product lines, and (c) Two firms in the same industry with similar product lines.

Date of Submission : 15 July 2011

Preparation. 1. On a letter size bond paper, make a separate work for each Lesson 1, Lesson 2 and Problems and Projects. 2. The front page should bear the Lesson Number and its title along with pertinent data of the students, i.e. Name, Student Number, Course and Year (including Imus Institute College Logo) 3. Margin should be 1 all sides. 4. Use the Chicago Format 5. It should also bear the Date of Submission, i.e. July 15, 2011 and submitted to Prof. Eulogio T. Catalan, Jr. 6. No assignments / projects will mean a grade of Inc in the preliminary period.
