SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

Read:
William generally wakes up at 6:00 A.M. He has breakfast at 6:30, hurries to the bus stop and
goes to work at 7 oclock. After a tiring day, he usually comes back home at 6:00 p.m. He eats
dinner at 8:00 p.m. and never watches TV after dinner because he goes to bed early.

O Simple Present se forma a partir do infinitivo sem TO.

A 3 pessoa do singular (he, she it), em regra geral, recebe S.
Examples:
She likes oranges and apples.
The dog barks every night.
Particularidades:
1) Os verbos terminados em CH, SH, O, X, S, Z recebem ES na terceira pessoa do singular.
Mary brushes her hair every morning.
That student goes to school in the morning.
Peter fixes cars with his father.
2) Os verbos terminados em Y precedidos de consoante trocam o Y por IES:
Rose studies wit me.
Douglas carries the books with him.
3) Os verbos terminados em Y precedidos de vogal recebem apenas S.
Susy plays the piano very well.
4) Com as demais pessoas (I, You, We, They) o verbo no sofre alteraes.
We like to watch TV.
They go to the club on Sundays.
Importante:
As aes habituais so sempre acompanhadas de advrbios de freqncia: always,
Sometimes, never, often, frequently, seldom, every... , once a ... , twice a ... ,
Rarely, usually.

INTERROGATIVE FORM:
Usa-se o auxiliar does para as terceiras pessoas do singular, antes do sujeito da frase
e o verbo volta sua forma normal.
He goes to school every day. / Does he go to school every day?
Usa-se o auxiliar do para as demais pessoas, antes do sujeito da frase.
