Mobile Computing

Mobile computing involves portable computing devices that allow users to access network resources away from fixed locations. It discusses the architecture of mobile computing including applications like banking and shopping. Limitations include bandwidth constraints and security issues. GSM standards address these by providing identification and encryption services. New data services on GSM like HSDSD and GPRS improved bandwidth. The document also covers MAC protocols for wireless networks including TDMA, SDMA, FDMA and various CSMA variants. Mobile IP technologies like agents, registration and tunneling are explained. DHCP and its role in client initialization is discussed. Traditional and indirect TCP are compared, with snooping TCP noted as an improvement over indirect TCP.
