Is Probably the most well known and widely used for both creative problem solving and idea generation. Brain storming start with problem statement that is neither to broad nor too narrow. 6 to 12 individuals are selected to participate. All ideas, no matter how illogical, must be recorded. No participant is allow to criticize or evaluate the idea of another participant during brain storming session.

A group method for obtaining new ideas focusing on the negative

Reverse brain storming similar to brain storming, except that criticism is allowed. In fact technique is based on finding fault by asking question.In how many ways can this idea fail? Since the focus is on negative, care must be taken to maintain the group morale. The process involves the identifiation of everthing wrong with an idea, followed by a discussion of ways to overcome these problems.

A method for individuals to solve problems through one of the four mechanism
Synetics is a creative process thhat forces individual to solve problem through one of four analogy mechanism: 1. Personal 2. direct 3. symbolic 4.fantasy The fisrt step is to make the strange familiar. This can be done through models. Consciously reversing the order of things or putting the problem in redily acceptable manner. Once the strangeness is eleminated participants engage in second step, making the familiar strange through personal , direct, or symbolic analogy. Which result in unique in a solution being developed.
