PROGREESIVES Generally leftists advocate for a change, to create a more equal society.

The idea that people should be treated as equals on certain dimensions such as race, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, economic status, social status, and cultural heritage. This can be achieved by treating people as equals politically, economically or socially and removing of economic inequalities among people. Progressives (issues are abortion, gay marriage, condoms, stem cell research) Progressives oppose the death penalty, support legal recognition of same-sex marriage, distribution of contraceptives, public funding of embryonic stem-cell research, and the right of women to choose abortion, support for comprehensive sex education, and making condoms available to high school students. Progressives also support greater personal freedom of worship and most recently they were strongly against moves to ban the hijab from French schools. In Economics progressives generally support the Keynesian economics and the welfare state through industrial democracy and nationalization of the economy.

Progressives generally accept the findings of environmental scientists about global warming, however divided over how to effectively and equitably reduce carbon emissions- the center-left often advocates a reliance on market measures such as emissions or a carbon tax, whilst those further to the left tend to support direct government regulation and intervention either alongside or instead of m arket mechanisms
