Step 1: Access your software and documentation

If you download your products from Passport Advantage, follow the instructions in these download documents: v For Domino, see www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24023729 v For Notes, see www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24023730 This product offering includes: v Quick Start CD v Domino server v Domino Administrator client v Domino Designer client v Notes client For complete documentation, including installation instructions, see the IBM Lotus Domino and Notes Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/domhelp/v8r0/index.jsp

Step 2: Evaluate your hardware and system configuration

See the detailed system requirements documents: v For Domino, see www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg27016204 v For Notes, see www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg27016205

Step 4: Install a Domino server

These steps provide an overview of how to install and configure a Domino server. For complete installation instructions that address each of these procedures, see IBM Lotus Domino and Notes Information Center at http:// publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/domhelp/v8r0/index.jsp. For known issues, see IBM Lotus Domino Support at http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/support/domino/support.html and IBM Lotus Notes Support at http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/support/notes/support.html. 1. Determine your companys server needs. Decide where to locate each server physically, taking into consideration local and wide-area networks and the function of each server. 2. Develop a hierarchical name scheme that includes organization and organizational unit names. 3. Decide whether you need more than one Domino domain. 4. Understand how server name format affects network name-to-address resolution for servers. Ensure that the DNS records for your company are the correct type for the server names. 5. Determine which server services to enable, and which certificate authority to use. 6. Install the Domino server on the server machine and complete first server setup. 7. Install the Domino Administrator on the administrators machine. 8. If the Domino server is offering Internet services, set up Internet site documents. There are some instances where Internet site documents are required. 9. Specify administration preferences. 10. Create additional certifier IDs to support the hierarchical name scheme. 11. Decide whether to use the ID vault for user ID recovery. 12. Register additional servers. 13. If you did not choose to do so during the first server setup, create a group in the Domino Directory for all administrators, and give this group Manager access to all databases on the first server. 14. (Optional) Install a Lotus Sametime server. Required if you want awareness and chat in the Notes client. For more information, see the Sametime Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/sametime/v8r0/ index.jsp. 15. (Optional) Install an Activities server on a WebSphere Application Server. Both are required if you want to use Activities from within the Notes client. 16. (Optional) Install an IBM WebSphere Portal server. Required if you want to use composite applications that contain portlets. 17. (Optional) Install Lotus Notes Traveler to provide two-way synchronization of e-mail, calendar, to-do, address book and journal data between Domino servers and Windows Mobile handheld devices. For more information, see the IBM Lotus Domino and Notes Information Center at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/domhelp/v8r0/ index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.help.lnt85.doc/LNT_overview.html 18. (Optional configuration) To use the Portal administrative user interface on the Portal server to administer both Domino and WebSphere Portal, configure Domino and Portal server federated administration. 19. (Optional) Install WebSphere Portal composite application support for Lotus Notes (install on the WebSphere Portal server). Required if you want to work with composite applications that contain portlets, or edit portlets using the Composite Application Editor. 20. Install and set up additional servers.
