Learning Assessment Using Wikis: Integrated or LMS Independent?

This document discusses the use of wikis for learning assessments and whether they are best integrated into learning management systems (LMS) or used independently. It describes experiments using wikis in university courses from 2003-2010. Key findings were that wikis lacked motivation, usability, and awareness without proper tools. Tools developed included awareness tools, reporting tools integrated with LMSs, and grading tools like peer review and detailed reports. The main conclusion is that whether a wiki is part of an LMS or independent does not impact its effectiveness, but rather depends on the desired level of integration within an educational institution.
