Team,

I have placed VM Workstation 6 software on webdocs. This software is very

nice, you can install on your local machine and it allows you to install another
OS on that very same machine using your same network configs. So you can
install and linux based os ontop of your windows machine. After installing this
software you can download an iso image of a linux os(see links below) and
then install on VM workstation 6. After installing the linux os, you can then
load websphere/ihs software on this os(using SSH file transfer software) and
install and use as a test machine, for stuff like patching, installing apps,
making web and app talk. You can use putty to ssh to the virtual machine,
you will just need to get ip of virtual machine. The options are limitless. This
is what I use to test WAS/IHS functions. Since we do not have a test server
here, this comes in handy for testing things, along with getting more
acquainted with WAS/IHS. One thing to note is after you have installed VM6,
and download the iso images, you will need to create your virtual machine,
make sure to use NAT Bridging, and make sure click Edit virtual machine
settings, CD-ROM and make sure Use ISO image is pointing to where your iso
is located on your local machine. See screen shot below. Let me know if you
have any questions.
