The Difference Between Jean's Piaget and Erik Erikson's Theory Development
The differences between Jean Piaget's and Erik Erikson's theories since Piaget studied only on the
cognitive development that deals with perception, attention, thinking, memory, problem-solving and creativity.
Piaget outlined the four major periods of intellectual development. The first period is the Sensorimotor stage
(birth to two years), during this stage children begin to make sense of the world by using their sensory
impression an motor actions. Second period is the Preoperational stage (two to seven years), in this stage the
child's language increasingly becomes an important tool in dealing with the environment, child learns to use
language and sometimes do not yet understand and are unable to take the point of view of other people. The
third stage is the Concrete Operational (seven to eleven), wherein the child begin to understand time and begin
to use problem-solving and lastly, the Formal Operations (eleven years & older), during this period children
become capable of using formal logic and exchanging of ideas. On the other hand, Erik Erikson's focuses on
the Psychosocial Development Theory wherein each must be resolved before one can move into the next.
Erikson's theory include five principal stages of development throughout childhood. First is the Conflict of Trust
Versus Mistrust, means that children require their security of their parents and caregivers through comfort and
affection. Second is the Autonomy Versus Guilt, n this stage young people can experience guilt and begin to
understand conflicts. Fourth stage, ndustry Versus nferiority, in which children attempt to master skills and
develop a sense of themselves as either industrious, competent and incompetent. And the last stage is the
dentity Versus Role Confusion, it is the discovery of identity of a person or anyone else.
When saw my little brother, he is fun of looking colorful objects for him to be play with and he is also
developing his language skills and through that it can help him discover his potentials. And also can say that
my brother learned because he know already how to classify things.
