Steve Poizner Announces Joint Partnership to Create Youth Education and Mentoring Program SACRAMENTO - To cultivate a climate of success for all California's youth, Commissioner Poizner announced today that the California Department of Insurance (CDI) has joined CalPERS and the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) as a founding partner to expand education opportunities in California. The California Aspire Achieve Lead Pipeline Project (CaAAL Pipeline Project) is an innovative education and mentoring program that seeks to encourage and prepare young people from diverse backgrounds for careers in legal, financial services and information technology professions. "I am delighted to announce that the California Department of Insurance is a proud partner in this great program to promote success for our youth from all walks of life," said Commissioner Poizner. "Our children are the future leaders of our world, and we must be willing to invest time and effort to ensure they have the opportunity to succeed." The CaAAL Pipeline Project was developed in an effort to close the achievement gap among California students, from preschool to college and beyond. Studies have demonstrated that some students from underserved communities too often fail to acquire skills in elementary education that lead to success in academics, and eventually professional careers. As a founding partner of the CaAAL Pipeline Project, CDI will continue to collaborate with PUC and CalPERS to guide the program's formation process and implement polices and procedures that will create a path for long term achievement for youth in California. The CaAAL Pipeline Project will be organized as a California non-profit corporation with a fundraising arm called the California Pipeline Fund with 501(c)(3) status. It is anticipated that funding will come from a combination of private partners and public sector grants.
