FRONT AND REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY

An axle is a central shaft for rotating wheel or gear. The axle is fixed to the wheels . the axle rotates along with the wheels. It connects the wheel on right side of the vehicle to the wheels on the left side of the vehicle. Front axle is the dead axle or the dummy axle. It is called so because it is used only for the load bearing purposes. It is not a part of the drive train. Only rear axle is a part of the drive train. The motion from the rear axle is transmitted to the front axle by using a propeller shaft.

Assembly process

The front axle beam is first loaded into the conveyor. Brake liner or brake shoe is attached to the end of the axle. Hub is then attached to the beam. Hub connects the wheel to the axle. The brake drum is attached to the brake liner. Finally track rod is attached. Track rod is the most important part of the front axle because it is connected to the gear box at one end and the steering is attached to its other end.

REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY

Rear axle is the drive axle. Here crone assembly is used. The axis automotive is brought from the plant in Mysore. Differential mechanism is used .

Assembly process

1. Rear axle beam is loaded into the conveyor. 2. Differential axle mechanism is used. It consists of a series of gears for turning rear axle along with wheels. The differential is used for turning the rear axle along with the front axle. 3. Differential is connected to the propeller shaft. This is attached to the drive shaft in the gear box. 4. Brake liner or shoe is attached to the end of the axle. 5. Hub is attached to the axle beam. Hub connects the wheel to the axle. 6. Brake drum is attached to the brake liner.

Pneumatic braking system is used on the rear wheels. The shoes press against the spinning surface called as the wheel drum. Hence the brake is applied.

The axles are then sent to the chassis assembly for connecting leaf springs , suspensions etc.
