A typical multi-path, multi-stage DRAG disk features a series of tight right-angle turns, each of which reduces the fluid velocity. The number of right-angle turns is varied to provide optimal valve performance at all flow conditions.
The World Leader in Severe Service Control Valves CCI designed, built and patented the first DRAG control valve in 1967, answering the need for a valve capable of handling highpressure liquids and gases such as water, oil, steam, natural gas, petroleum products and chemicals. DRAG technology is considered one of the landmark innovations in the history of the severe service control valve industry. The Need for Velocity Control To maintain performance, velocity through the valve must be controlled at all times. High fluid velocity through valve trim leads to cavitation, erosion and vibration which can damage valves and result in system control problems. DRAG Solution to High Velocities CCIs DRAG valves prevent the development of high fluid velocities at all valve settings. The DRAG trim divides flow into many streams to minimize the mass and energy levels. Each flow passage consists of a specific number of right-angle turns to form a tortuous path. The multiple right-angle turns in the DRAG disk stack allow pressure to be let down in multiple stages, decreasing the high pressure gradually at each stage and thereby controlling velocity. Customized for Better Flow Control Capacity can be varied for each of the disks in the DRAG disk stack for superior velocity control. In addition, CCIs DRAG solutions match the fluid flow capacity to the system design requirements to guarantee stable control. CCIs unique capability to vary the number of pressure-reducing stages throughout the valves operating range allows for maximum performance.
Severe service control valves vary in size, design and flow capacity. CCI custom designs every DRAG valve to meet customers specific velocity control needs.
Individual DRAG disks are stacked and fused together, allowing the valve plug to stroke up and down to increase or decrease flow.
One misperforming valve can shut a plant down. CCI DRAG technology prevents downtime and provides plant owners with peace of mind.

reliability and output with DRAG .
Provides Individualized Solutions: CCI works with operators to improve plant performance,
Low Operating Costs: Application-specific design considerations like pressurized seat, plug, snapacting relay and custom engineering ensure reliable and repeatable performance.
Improves Plant Performance: CCIs DRAG valve operates without efficiency losses from valve leakage.
Reduces System Costs: DRAG valves do not require back pressure or anti-flashing devices that can be expensive and unreliable.
Prevents Cavitation Damage: CCI supplies up to 40 pressure-reducing stages (based on pressure drop and fluid conditions) to limit trim exit velocity, preventing the damaging effects of cavitation.
Reduces Costly Maintenance Cycles: DRAG valves are designed specifically to provide longer intervals between maintenance and allow easy access to all components.
Eliminates Erosion Damage: By controlling fluid velocities and providing tight shutoff, CCI DRAG valves eliminate erosion.
Avoids Plant Shutdowns: CCIs DRAG valves are designed specifically to handle the severe service of nuclear power, fossil power, and oil and gas applications.
We have a very large installed base of CCI valves, both in liquid and gas service. In some applications CCI valves were the only solution to keep the plants running.

This note is to confirm that Shell Expro utilize CCI DRAG choke valves on all their severe service wells, i.e. wells which have proven too rigorous for other conventional type chokes.... To this end, Brent Management (Brent A, B, C &D) have decided that all severe service wells should be fitted with CCI DRAG choke valve.
