XVII HEALTH TEACHINGS

Advise the patient to comply with medications prescribed by the physician. Explain to the patient and SO the benefits or advantages, adverse reactions and special considerations for each medication that the patient receives. Instruct the patient or the SO to report any undesirable effect that the patient manifests.
Persuade the patient to have a frequent exercise by starting on a deep breathing techniques and stretching up to other non-strenuous exercises.

Encourage the patient to ambulate to prevent potential problems of immobility. Encourage also the patient to perform ADLs, maintain good body alignment, and carry out active ROM exercises to the maximum degree possible yet within the limitation imposed by their illness and recovery program. Advise the patient to have an adequate sleep and rest period. Encourage the patient to verbalize what he feels and report severe pain to be given prompt treatment. Educate the patient and the family the importance of proper handwashing prior to contact with the incision site. Explain to the patient the rationale why he is still on Clear Fluid diet. (a regular diet can only be given when the intestines start to function properly). Once permitted to eat, advise the client to take: o Foods rich in Vitamin C for faster healing of wound. o Iron-rich foods to prevent/relieve anemia due to blood loss. o Increased fluid to avoid dehydration brought by intermittent fever. Also to avoid further constipation. o Foods rich in fiber to avoid constipation. Sex Tell the patient that sexual activity can be resumed as soon as his incision heals and feels comfortable to himself and to his partner. Spirituality Advise the patient to strengthen his faith and trust and continue praying to Almighty Father for He will help him be relieved.
