A general hospital consists of specialized wards that each host patients admitted by their GP and a consultant. When patients are admitted, their personal details are recorded and tests conducted are stored in a separate register along with treatment results. Patients are assigned a leading consultant but may be examined by other doctors if needed, as doctors specialize in a particular medical branch and work with patients across wards.
