CHURCH comes from the Greek word 'ekklesia' which comes from two words 'ek' meaning 'out' and 'kaleo' meaning to 'call.' In classical Greek "ekklesia" meant "an assembly of citizens summoned by the crier, the legislative assembly. LAY/LAITY comes from the Greek word 'laos which means people without vows. They are the people who are involved in the work for the change of the temporal order.

When we look at Romans 8:30 there are two areas we need to attend to. First, we see that the calling of God is exclusive, the calling only applies to those whom God has already predestined. Secondly, the calling of God is effectual, meaning it is purposeful and it always accomplishes its purpose. The Calling of God is Exclusive: For those whom he predestined he also called.
The full belonging of the Lay faithful to the church and its mystery. It has secular character.
