Analysis of Daddy

The poem "Daddy" by Sylvia Plath has an accusatory, acerbic, and bitter tone because of Plath's hatred towards her father. Plath compares herself to a foot living in her father's shoe for 30 years, barely daring to breathe or sneeze. You do not do, you do not do Any more, black shoe In which I have lived like a foot For thirty years, poor and white, Barely daring to breathe or Achoo.

Sylvia Plath is comparing herself to a foot, and is also comparing her father to a shoe in this stanza alone.

Theme I think the them of this poem is unhealthy relationships. Interpretation I think this poem is about how Sylvia Plath feels about her father in general. I, personally, think she despises him. I believe, she has always wanted him dead for some time. For example in her poem she mentioned, Daddy, I have had to kill you. You died before I had time.
