Saraswathi undertook a study on Customer Satisfaction on Post -Sales Service with Reference to Four-Wheeler Automobile Industry which reveals that the key to success of automobile industry lies not only in having good products but also in being a b l e to provide the customer with the level of service they desire. B e c a u s e o f increasing competitiveness in the Indian automobile industry, almost all automobile manufacturers have invested valuable resources on customer satisfaction as a tool to understand the needs and expectations of their customers. Increased presence of four-w h e e l e r v e h i c l e s t h r o u g h o u t t h e c o u n t r y h a s c r e a t e d a g r o w i n g n e e d f o r p r o v i d i n g service infrastructures closer to the customers' homes or offices. In The Wall Street Journal India Info line Sector Reports published a report on Automobile- Indian four Wheelers Industry which reveals that India is the s e c o n d l a r g e s t m a n u f a c t u r e r a n d p r o d u c e r o f f o u r - w h e e l e r s i n t h e w o r l d . I t stands next only to Japan and China in terms of the number of four-wheelers produced and domestic sales respectively. This distinction was achieved due t o v a r i e t y o f r e a s o n s l i k e r e s t r i c t i v e p o l i c y f o l l o w e d b y t h e G o v e r n m e n t o f India towards the passenger car industry, rising demand for personal transport ,inefficiency in the public transportation system etc.
