Arc Welding Report

Arc welding uses an electric arc to melt and join metal parts. It involves forming an electric arc between an electrode and the metal pieces to be welded, creating enough heat to melt the metals and join them. The electrode should be held at a 60 degree angle to direct equal heat and filler metal onto both parts being welded. Procedures for butt joints and straight bead welds are provided, including cleaning surfaces, striking an arc, adjusting current, and chipping off slag. Potential issues addressed are misalignment, distortion, and causes of alignment errors.

ARC WELDING

INTRODUCTION:
Arc welding is a electrical welding, where it use current and electrode to weld the metal.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. 2. 3. 4. To study how to setup AC machine. To study know the problem that occurs on the arc welding process. To study type of metal and electrode that are used in arc welding. To study know the angles that are used in arc welding process.

THEORY:
The basic principal of arc welding involves heating or melting of the base metal using electric arc. The electric arc is formed when there is a voltage difference between the metal coating at the end of the electrode and the surface of the metal. The Arc will produce enough to the melt the base metal and the end of the electrode to form a pool of molten metal. The electrode should be at 60 between two parts. So that, that equal heat and filler metal is directed onto both process.

EQUIENT AND APPARATUS:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. AC machine Glove Electrode holder Chipping hammer Apron Head shield. Wire brush.

PROCEDURE
BUTT JOIN: 1. Clean the surface of the metal plate with wire brush before welding. Place as close to the weld as possible to the metal plate. 2. Before striking an arc, insert an electrode to the electrode holder. 3. Adjust the electric current according to the electrode size I use 110v. 4. Weld the left side and right side for stable the metal. 5. Weld along the base from left to right. 6. Use the chipping hammer for clean the shell cause by weld.

STRAIGHT BEAD WELDING:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Clean the surface of the meta plate with wire brush before welding. Before striking an arc, insert an electrode to the electro holder. Adjust the electric current according to the electrode size I use 110V. Draw the straight line under the metal. Weld along the base from left to right. Use the chipping hammer for clean the shell cause by weld.

RESULT:

BUTT JOIN

STRAIGHT BEAD WELDING

BUTT JOIN AND STRAIGHT BEAD WELDING 1. ARC STRIKE: A localized coalescence outside the weld zone. Precaution in difficult area , adjacent area can be protected using fire blankets. 2. MISALIGNMENT: Amount a join is out of alignment at the root. Precaution- workmanship , transition angle not to exceed 2.5 to 1

3. DISTORTION: Weld distortion is due to solidification shrinkage and thermal contraction of the weld metal during welding. Precaution- welding short length on a planned or random distortion are used to controlled this problem.

DISCUSSION:
1. What mean by MS in electrode? - MS is Malaysian standard. 2. What kind number of electrode is use for flat and horizontal? - It is 1 . 3. How much the voltage for standard arc welding? - 110v 4. What will happen if move slow in welding? - it will cause the size of alignment become large. 5. How many content in rod? - Steel - China clay - Rotile 6. Why the alignment become error? -It because of lack of experience and need more practical

7. How to prevent alignment become error? - Constant the slow movement and make a correct handle the electrode holder with 60o from surface of metal.

CONCLUTION: At the end of experiment 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. We know type of electrode and function for weld. We know how to control the electrode holder with 60o of hand level. We know how to weld with correctly We know how to setup the AC machine. We know what kind of alignment cause by weld with wrong method.
