Twitter Lingo:

follower: someone who follows a Twitter account avatar: like a username; describes you or your main reason for tweeting hashtag: # indicates a topic or theme. Sometimes these are more like a punchline. retweet: forwarding someones tweet TweetStream: a persons flow of tweets. Most people say stream,feed,timeline Tweeter: a Twitter user Tweeps: your followers and the people you follow Twitterati: celebrity or popular Twitter users

Twitter Abbreviations:

DM direct message, direct messaging; for example D @username RTretweet MTmodified retweet. Usually means tweet is truncated for space. @syour collection of mentions/messages sent to your attention FF Follow Friday, usually preceded by a hashtag: #FF IIRCif I remember correctly AFAIKas far as I know NPno problem OHoverheard TYthank you YWyoure welcome

*cull your feed *remember its a stream *follow people who interact with followers *RT trusted tweeps liberally *reach out/engage/ask questions *remember that a tweet is short form, but a timeline is long form; youre establishing an online presence/persona *follow some people you wouldnt have access to irl *be prepared for emerging conventions
