Untitled 1

The document discusses several wireless networking standards including Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth, and CSMA/CA. Gigabit Ethernet operates at 1000 Mbps and uses full duplex to avoid collisions. IEEE 802.11 defines specifications for wireless LANs including basic service sets, extended service sets, and three frame types: management, control, and data. Bluetooth connects different devices like phones, computers, and appliances into ad hoc networks and was designed for interoperability between diverse devices.

Gigabit Ethernet

The need for an even higher data rate resulted in the design of the Gigabit Ethernet protocol (1000 Mbps). The IEEE committee calls the standard 802.3z. In the full-duplex mode of Gigabit Ethernet, there is no collision; the maximum length of the cable is determined by the signal attenuation in the cable.

Wireless LANs

IEEE 802.11

1. 2.

IEEE has defined the specifications for a wireless LAN, called IEEE 802.11, which covers the physical and data link layers. It defines two services: BSS ESS

Note
The CTS frame in CSMA/CA handshake can prevent collision from a hidden station.

BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth is a wireless LAN technology designed to connect devices of different functions such as telephones, notebooks, computers, cameras, printers, coffee makers, and so on. A Bluetooth LAN is an ad hoc network, which means that the network is formed spontaneously.
